March 9, 2023Southern Texas PGA

SPRING, TX – The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America – the longest running LPGA Tour event in the state of Texas – is continuing its partnership with the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf. Youth female golfers can compete for the opportunity to play with the pros this October by qualifying and participating in The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America Girls Championship.

The Northern Texas PGA Foundation will conduct the Girls Championship Wednesday, July 5 through Friday, July 7, 2023, at Golf Clubs at The Tribute. Tribute Golf Links will play host for rounds one and two, and Friday’s final round will take place at Old American Golf Club. The champion of this event will earn an exemption into the LPGA Tour’s The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America on October 5-8 at Golf Clubs at The Tribute.

Qualifying opportunities into The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America Girls Championship will be available at select All American Tour events hosted by the Northern Texas PGA, select Prestige Tour events hosted by the Southern Texas PGA and select championships hosted by the Legends Junior Tour.

Last year’s Girls Championship resulted in Yunxuan (Michelle) Zhang, now a freshman on the Southern Methodist University’s women’s golf team, winning the exemption and fulfilling a lifelong dream by playing in an LPGA Tour tournament.

In addition to awarding an LPGA Tour exemption, the partnership between The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America and Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf will further impact the community by providing a junior golf clinic, a High School Girls Golf Clinic, and a Veterans Clinic during championship week. Also, the Northern Texas PGA Foundation will award a $5,000 The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America College Scholarship to a deserving female junior golfer.

For the team at The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America the opportunity to help inspire the next generation of LPGA Tour players and expand its community outreach is something that fits right into the tournament’s mission.
