The STPGA is sad to announce the loss of former Junior Golf member, James Ragan.
Ragan, 20, of Corpus Christi was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, at age 13 and, although the survival rate is quite low, he fought a courageous battle for many years.
In 2007, James created the Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation. A toga party was held in Corpus Christi that first year and the event raised over $40,000 for medical research at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where James was a patient. The second year a golf tournament was added and the event raised over $100,000. In total, James and his Foundation have raised over $1,000,000 for cancer research.
Ragan competed on July 11-12, 2011 in the Junior Tour event Padres Isles Country Club, shooting 75-77 for a two-day total, 152 and winning the event by five strokes. It was his final STPGA event, before going off to play college golf at Rice University. In two years at Rice, Ragan played in three events for the Owls.
James is survived by his sister Mecklin, mother Gloria and father James.
Donations to the foundation (www.tokc.org) are welcomed.
